Astrophotography is a thrilling, rewarding hobby, but carries a multitude of variables as well as different equipment and software options. This leads to most people taking on this adventure getting overwhelmed and frustrated with getting started and some dropping the project altogether. It doesn’t have to be that way! I truly believe anyone who wants to learn this skill and puts in the effort, can grasp the concept and achieve outstanding results! Just like anything you pick up and try out, this is going to require time, patience and lots of practice. The universe is calling you. Are you ready to embark on the adventure of a lifetime?
If you are still reading, I’m proud of you! You have made the decision grasp onto our beautiful universe, but I need you to hold on tight because we are in for a wild ride! Everything starts here. It starts where you are currently standing or sitting. You need to understand a few basic things about the hobby to start getting an understanding of what you are trying to accomplish.
The simple idea:
There are two main halves that we put together to obtain a picture that leaves you speechless. The first half is split in two and houses your equipment and the software that operates it. As you can probably guess, these need to be able to work with each other like a well oiled machine and that’s because they do! We will get more into this in a moment. The second half is processing the images you obtain from your telescope. This cleans them up and beautifies them. This is where your vision becomes reality and also where the variables in which we cannot control get corrected.
Sounds good so far, right? Are you getting excited? Well, you should be!
This is where I need you to have a tight grip and not let go on me.
The complex idea:
We are currently on a giant rock hurdling through space, and we are imaging objects we cannot see and need to be able to track them with a tolerance of less than a human hair as they are tracking through the night sky as the Earth rotates on its axis. And at the same time, we need to account for atmospheric turbulence, sky brightness, weather, wind, cloud coverage and the list goes on. This is where my analogy of work together like a well oiled machine derives from.
Are you still holding on? Good! I see you’re a bit rattled, but I did say hang on tight because you’re in for a wild ride, right? You are proving you’re in this for the long haul and THAT’S what is going to make you successful in this!
My purpose is to teach you how to do this in the easiest way possible with step-by-step tutorials designed for any skill level. One thing I need you to understand is my promise to you: You are not on your own here! You are going to have questions along the way and that is exactly my point and purpose here. Ask away! You can reach out to me any time simply by emailing me through the “Contact” page or use the chat option, both of which will bring you directly to me. I don’t have a staff that pretends to be me, so anytime you reach out, you are speaking directly with me.
As I am constructing this site, you may find areas that seem blank when they should have something in them. This section is included in that statement. Check back often and as you see links populate, that section is open and contains information that will help you on your journey! In the meantime, check out the video index filled with video tutorials directly on my YouTube channel.
Happy imaging and clear skies!
